AU professor to help decide fundamental rights in the EU

Professor Jens Vedsted-Hansen from the Department of Law at Aarhus University, Business and Social Sciences, is a new member of the Management Board of the EU's Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA). An agency which works to protect citizens’ rights.

Part-time legal lecturer keynote speaker at international competition

In July, part-time lecturer Mikkel Gudsøe from the Department of Law was the keynote speaker at the Master Class which kick-starts the ‘International Negotiation Competition (INC)’. The competition aims at strengthening the negotiation skills of future lawyers.

Professor appointed to the Competition Appeal Tribunal

Palle Bo Madsen, Professor of Law at Aarhus University, Business and Social Sciences has become part of the highest authority within competition law in Denmark.

Aarhus University receives DKK 5 million for legal research

The Department of Law at School of Business and Social Sciences is the only department this year to have received three postdoctoral scholarships from The Danish Social Science Research Council (FSE). The three scholarships amount to a total of DKK 5 million, which is the largest sum granted to one single department this year.

Law students ranked third among the world’s best universities

Law students from The Department of Law have proven that they are members of the world elite. Together with Harvard, they came third in a major international competition, only beaten by the Indian university Nalsar, which won the competition, and UCL in London, which took second place.

Theme meeting and PhD defence: Social benefits and the internal market
At this theme meeting, Professor Michael Dougan from University of Liverpool will outline the UK’s renegotiation of the EU membership, the proposed “red card” powers for the national parliaments, and the draft restrictions on access to welfare for EU nationals. Afterwards, Henrik Skovgaard-Petersen will defend his PhD thesis about the relationship between free movement and non-discrimination - particularly with respect to social rights and benefits illustrated by the case of student mobility.

While the distinction between national and international law, based on the Westphalian model, represents the basic model to understand and explain current legal orders, the idea of transnational law has been emerging for decades now. We all have a certain understanding of the term. But what is it really? How well does it fit within our current legal systems? Or is it a new legal system altogether? And how do we conduct research in transnational topics and law, or use it to explain the development of our legal orders?
