The EAPIL Aarhus Conference POSTPONED

  • The founding conference has been postponed to 27-29 May 2021

POSTPONEMENT of The 2020 EAPIL Aarhus Conference (until 27-29 May 2021)

The situation in Denmark (as elsewhere) has come to the point where the Corona virus is spreading across the country and creating challenges as to holding all types of events, and in particular large international conferences. Consequently, the Danish Government and other countries have issued strict measures.

In Denmark, the entire public sector, including universities, are practically shut down for, so far, the next fourteen days. Furthermore, it has been decided that all public and private events exceeding 10 persons must be cancelled. These measures are likely to be extended. In addition, restrictions on travel to and from Denmark have been imposed.

Consequently, the Department of Law and the EAPIL Board and Scientific Committee have decided that in the view of the Corona virus situation in Denmark and in other countries, and due to the national measures including the current and possible future travel restrictions regarding travels, imposed by the Danish authorities and other countries as well, unfortunately, we have to cancel the EAPIL Aarhus Conference in May 2020 and postpone it until next year (27-29 May 2021).

As host of the conference, we very much regret this postponement, but this is a necessary choice and the best solution. In particular, we would like to apologize for the inconvenience it may have caused you. If you have already booked accommodation in Aarhus for the conference in May this year, please cancel your reservation as soon as possible as, otherwise, the hotel will charge you for the fee.

However, we very much hope that you will participate in the postponed EAPIL Aarhus Conference in May next year.

If you have already registered, it will be possible to transfer your fee already paid to a registration for the 2021 conference. If you wish to do so, we kindly ask you to confirm this not later than Friday 17 April 2020 by e-mail to Gitte Schneider: gs@law.au.dk.
If we have not received your e-mail by that date, we will automatically pay back your fee as soon as possible after that date.

The conference programme remains unchanged, and all the speakers have been invited again for the 2021 conference.

We hope to see you all in 2021.

The 2020 EAPIL Aarhus Conference
14-16 May 2020

Since the entry into force of the Treaty of Amsterdam in 1999, the European Union has adopted an impressive number of regulations in the field of Private International Law.

As a result of the European legislature’s activities Private International Law has gradually become a truly European discipline. However, a truly pan-European forum to discuss issues of European Private International Law is still missing. Following a conference in Berlin in 2018, a group of Private International Law scholars from all over Europe therefore, decided to found a European Association of Private International Law (EAPIL). The Association will be established 2019 and to finalise its establishment, the first EAPIL conference will be held at Aarhus University in Denmark from 14-16 May 2020.

PLEASE NOTE: the conference has been postponed until May 2021 due to the Corona virus!
