Every year, the Department of Law at Aarhus University organises a guest lecture in memory of Max Sørensen, the famous Danish legal professional, professor and judge. This year, the lecture will be given by Jens Peter Christensen, LLD, and the subject will be constitutional law and political science. The event will take place on the 100th anniversary of Max Sørensen’s birth.

Jens Peter Christensen will be speaking about Professor Max Sørensen’s great influence on the field of constitutional law, and on establishing political science as a field of study in Denmark. Very few Danish legal professionals have left such an indelible mark and played such a crucial role for today’s society as Max Sørensen.

? “Max Sørensen was one of the most prominent legal professionals of his time, and almost personified the international law department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark for many years. In addition, he was the person behind the adoption of Section 20 of the Danish Constitution on the surrender of sovereignty, as well as the driving force behind the establishment of the Department of Political Science and Government at Aarhus University. Max Sørensen was not only an interdisciplinary expert, but also a strong advocate of maintaining the distinctive features and independence of the disciplines,” relates Jens Peter Christensen.

The lectures are the brainchild of Jens Hartig Danielsen, Professor at the Department of Law and Max Sørensen Professor in the period 2009–2012.

“The annual Max Sørensen lecture honours the memory of a true expert in the field of constitutional law and highlights the crucial role constitutional law plays in all areas of society. We are therefore delighted that Jens Peter Christensen, with his background as a professor and high court judge, has agreed to deliver the Max Sørensen lecture on the 100th anniversary of Max Sørensen’s birth.”

The lecture will be held on Tuesday, 19 February 2013 from 12.15 until 13.15 in Lakeside Lecture Theatre 1 (Per Kirkeby), Building 1250, Bartholins Allé 3, 8000 Aarhus C.

The Department of Law will be hosting a reception in the foyer after the lecture. Everyone is welcome.
