The preliminary ruling procedure in a changing environment: A view from the European Court of Justice

Judge at the Court of Justice of the European Union, Allan Rosas, delivers a lecture on recent developments in the legal, political and economic environment, and their implications for the Court. Furthermore, the lecture will address the ways, if any, that national courts in Member States and the Court of Justice have adapted to these developments.

In October, Judge at the Court of Justice of the European Union since 2002, Allan Rosas, holds a lecture at the Department of Law in Aarhus. The lecture is the first in an Autumn lecture series called "European Courts in Changing Times".

About Judge Allan Rosas

Allan Rosas is Judge at the Court of Justice of the European Union since 2002. He is Senior Fellow of the University of Turku, Fellow of the Robert Schuman Institute for European Affairs, University of Luxembourg, and Visiting Professor at the College of Europe (Bruge) and the University of Helsinki.

Before joining the Court of Justice, he was Professor of Law at the University of Turku (1978-1981) and the Åbo Akademi University (1981-1995) and subsequently Principal Legal Adviser and Director (External Relations) at the Legal Service of the European Commission (1995-2001) and Deputy Director-General of the Legal Service (2001-2002). He has more than 400 publications in the fields of EU law, public international law, constitutional law and administrative law.

Theme of the lecture

On Friday 13 October 2017, at 10:15 at Aarhus University, Judge Rosas will deliver a lecture on ‘The preliminary ruling procedure in a changing environment: A view from the European Court of Justice’, where he will speak on recent developments in the legal, political and economic environment, and their implications for the Court. Furthermore, the lecture will address the ways, if any, that national courts in Member States and the Court of Justice have adapted to these developments.

The discussant for lecture delivered by Judge Allan Rosas will be Graham Butler, Assistant Professor Law at Aarhus University, who is the convenor of the ‘European Courts in Changing Times’ lecture series at the university.
